Starting with the material/building material concrete, whose condition changed from liquid to extremely solid in a short time, the idea arose to acoustically break up a solidified mass again. During several visits to construction sites where concrete parts were sawed or cut out, I collected acoustic building material: so-called ‘noise’, an unavoidable by-product of working with concrete. Penetrating into the layers of this noise, uncovering noise and sound layers, the process of sawing, opening and finally smashing the material are the starting point of the compositional work.

source: private material from the composer
drawing based on a foto by Rania Moslam

Katharina Klement (* 1963, Graz) The composer works as a “composer-performer” in the field of composed and improvised, electronic and instrumental music.
